NEUROTOXINS

NEUROTOXINS

in Garden City, NY

"Toxins" may sound scary but don't fret. Often referred to as Botox®, cosmetic neurotoxins are derived from a purified form of botulinum toxin with a special power to freeze muscle movement.

Scientists removed the proteins from the toxin that are harmful and isolated the ones that only block nerve signals, creating the highly refined formulas that we use today.

When these powerful formulas are injected properly by a trained professional into specific muscles, they can safely inhibit the constant movement that folds and creases the overlying skin like a piece of paper, often producing spectacular results for the patient.

TYPES OF BOTOX SERVICES WE OFFER

Crow's Feet

Softens fine lines at the outer corners of the eyes caused by smiling and squinting, creating a smoother, more refreshed look while keeping your expression natural.

And More!

Neurotoxins can also be used for areas like bunny lines, chin dimpling, neck bands, jawline slimming, gummy smile correction, and more—depending on your goals and facial anatomy.

TYPES OF NEUROTOXINS

  • BOTOX®

Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults for a short period of time (temporary).BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into the area around the side of the eyes to improve the look of moderate to severe crow’s feet lines in adults for a short period of time (temporary). BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the brows in people 18 to 65 years of age for a short period of time (temporary).

BOTOX® Cosmetic is administered by a healthcare professional as a simple, nonsurgical treatment that is injected directly into the muscles between the brows. It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines to form between the brows.

    Facts about BOTOX® Cosmetic:

    • BOTOX® Cosmetic, introduced in 2002, is the first botulinum toxin to be approved by the FDA to temporarily treat moderate to severe glabellar lines between the brows.
    • With real, noticeable results, no surgery and no recovery time, there are many reasons why BOTOX® Cosmetic has been chosen by millions of women and their doctors.
    • Approximately 11.8 million1 BOTOX® Cosmetic procedures have been administered in the United States since 2002. 92% of 303 patients surveyed were satisfied with the results of their BOTOX® Cosmetic experience.
  • DYSPORT®

Dysport (pronounced “dis-port”) is a form of botulinum neurotoxin commonly injected into wrinkle-causing muscles such as the skin above the eyebrows that cause “frown lines” to paralyze them.

Dysport injections are FDA-approved to treat forehead wrinkles and frown lines and is available by prescription. Because Dysport has less of a protein load than Botox this presumably means that fewer antibodies are formed to detect and destroy it, thereby making it last longer. The needles used to administer Dysport are so thin that any pain from the injections is minimal.

The area is usually numbed before treatment. Dysport also “spreads more” during injection which is a good thing for larger areas such as the forehead and armpits. There are fewer injections required resulting in less potential discomfort, swelling, or bruising for the patient. Dysport has proven superior at reducing signs of crow’s feet wrinkles. Results are visible within two to three days, and may last up to six months. Results vary.

Please note that Dysport, Xeomin and Botox CANNOT be used interchangeably.

  • XEOMIN®

Xeomin is another neurotoxin in the same category as Botox and Dysport. Xeomin is approved by the FDA for the treatment of severe frown lines or “11’s” between the eyebrows.

Like other drugs in this category, Xeomin works by paralyzing muscles and smoothing wrinkles. It blocks the signals from the nerves to the muscles. As a result, the targeted muscle cannot contract.

There are no additives in Xeomin which may lessen a patient’s likelihood of developing antibodies to it. It takes about one week for the full effects of Xeomin injections to be realized, and once this occurs the results last from three to six months. Unlike its predecessors, Xeomin does not need to be refrigerated.

Please note that Dysport, Xeomin and Botox CANNOT be used interchangeably.

The FDA has approved the use of Botox® for the frown lines and crow's feet, while Dysport® and Xeomin® are approved for frown lines only. All other uses are considered "off label."

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who should not receive neurotoxin treatment?

If you meet any of these criteria, you may not be a good candidate for neurotoxin:

    • Have had botulinum toxin injections recently
    • Have a history of allergic reactions to Botox® or any other botulinum toxin injection
    • Have active skin infection or are taking medication for skin infections
    • Have muscle or nerve conditions
    • Have recently had or have plans to have invasive facial surgery
    • Are pregnant or breastfeeding women
    • Are taking maintenance medicine that can affect your Botox injections
  • Is medical grade neurotoxin poisonous?

Many claim that because neurotoxin treatments contains botulinum toxin, which can cause botulism, there’s a risk of getting poisoned. However, medical grade neurotoxin contains a processed form of botulinum toxin type A (onabotulinum toxin A), which does not have the harmful strains and proteins that can poison patients. What remains is the proteins responsible for freezing muscles with no danger of poison.

  • Can neurotoxin treatment fix static wrinkles?

Static wrinkles aren’t caused by muscle movement, but by age, loss of collagen and elastin in the skin, and external factors like gravity and UV damage. Botox injections can have an effect on static wrinkles, but these aren’t as effective. We recommend dermal fillers for static wrinkles, or you can schedule a consultation with Dr Srivastava  to find out better options.

  • How long does neurotoxin treatment last?

Neurotoxin treatment is temporary and usually wears off four months after your injection. However, some users report the effects lasting as long as six months. Factors like good aftercare practices and your body’s metabolism can affect how long the Botox injection remains effective in your facial muscles.

  • How effective is Botox for crow’s feet?

Botox is highly effective at relaxing the muscles that cause crow’s feet, significantly softening fine lines and preventing deeper wrinkles from forming.

  • Will Botox affect my smile?

When performed correctly, Botox softens wrinkles while preserving your natural smile and facial expression.

  • How long does Botox for forehead lines last?

Results typically last 3–4 months depending on muscle strength and metabolism.

  • Will Botox make my forehead look frozen?

When performed with precision and proper dosing, Botox smooths wrinkles while preserving natural expression.

  • After care tips

Neurotoxin procedures need only a little downtime or recovery period, and you’re free to resume your daily activities after getting your injections. To minimize the side effects and avoid affecting the results of your treatment, here are a few reminders to practice after your treatment:

    • Don’t touch the treated area. Touching it right after your procedure can affect the results. There’s also the risk of transferring bacteria from your hands to your face, which can cause a skin infection on the injection area.
    • Avoid laying down after your treatment. Not only can this risk causing the Botox to spread to surrounding facial muscles, but there’s also the risk of falling asleep, rolling over, and pressing against the treated area. Wait at least four hours before lying down.
    • Avoid strenuous activity. This can increase your blood pressure and promote bruising in the treatment area. It can take up to two weeks for bruises to fade.
    • Avoid heat exposure. This includes sun exposure and hot environments like hot showers, saunas, etc. The heat can trigger your sensitive injected area, which can cause redness and irritation. It can also increase your blood flow, which can promote bruising.
